Do you think we should keep voting on edit suggestions open even after a suggestion is accepted? Just so good suggestions get the full credit they deserve, and any suggestion quota based on quality is more accurately represented?
Yes, good point James
Hey Chris. Is the suggested edit function glitching? Your suggestion here
is showing as “accepted” but doesn’t appear to have been. Also, I have no option to upvote your suggestion.
Hmm, interesting, thanks @James_Lennox.
I haven’t yet enabled voting on accepted suggestions, so that is as expected.
But the fact that the caption was accepted but not applied - that looks like a glitch.
Thanks for bringing this bug up, James.
Suggestions were being wrongly shown as “accepted” even when rejected by the caption author (as had happened in this case).
The vote button is now shown on suggestions that have been accepted.
I’ve had a suggestion on my profile for 24 days which I acted upon at the time. How do I get rid of it? I’ve pressed every button I can find (including removing the caption) but no luck.
Hi @Dave_Bryan - I’ve manually deleted the notification.
All - please let me know if this happens to you despite “accepting” or “rejecting” a suggestion. Thanks!
Thanks, Chris.
I noticed a couple of captions replaced by a special character. Was that the work of the original poster, or a new feature?
Am I out of line trying to make a joke out of a suggested edit? If so, I apologize. Don’t want to get on anyone’s bad side.
Hi Willie. Not sure I follow? Do you have an example?
Not sure if this is what Willie is referring to, but I’ll admit that last time “Meals on Wheels” reared its head I was tempted to suggest the edit “Anything but ‘Meals on Wheels’” as a joke.
I didn’t, because it could have been misconstrued in several ways. If this is the sort of thing Willie is referring to, I’d suggest avoiding it for this very reason.
Probably best to keep jokes in the comments, and reserve suggested edits for genuine help.
I think Chris would like an example of a ‘special character’ from Willie as I’ve not seen such a thing.
Yep, I’m not sure about that part either, Dot, although I think I saw a recent caption edited to a standalone emoji. I just assumed it was a dupe placeholder while the author thought of something else.
I have also noticed the captions, that Willie referred to. I had wondered if this is what happens when you decide to delete your caption.
I don’t remember where I saw the second one, but, one was on the Pic of
the girl with sprinkles on her tongue. It was captioned at 12:59 06 - directly below the caption - “sidy dish.”
Both were from James Lennox’s picture from Monday of the girl with sprinkles on her tongue. They were a dash and an ellipsis (…). I checked the history of both captions and saw that each was similar to a previous caption for the picture.
It appears one has already been deleted. I think I made a joke about making a mad dash to change the caption for that one. The other, I said something about January 6 referring to Trump’s address at the Ellipse of the U.S. capitol (ellipse/ellipsis).
I saw James’s reply and I think he’s right, I don’t think I’ll do any more of that regardless.
A new minor glitch, Chris. I had an edit suggestion accepted here:
The message icon appeared on my “me” button, but I received no message, and the icon hasn’t disappeared.
Noted, thanks James. I’ll look into it.
this should be fixed now @James_Lennox. Thanks for letting me know
On Sunday, we will have quotas for suggested edits. Quotas will be higher for those who’ve had their edits accepted (accepting an edit is equivalent to giving it an up-vote).
Quotas will be calculated as follows:
quota = 2 + weekly bonus + three-month bonus
Definitions
weekly bonus = ( votes last week / number of edits last week ) x 4
three month bonus = ( votes in the last three months / number of edits submitted in last three months ) x 4
Example
So, if someone added 4 edits and scored 2 votes (i.e. half their edits were accepted), their quota the following week would be 6:
2 + ( 2 / 4 ) * 4 + ( 2 / 4 ) * 4 = 6
If, over three months, they had added 10 edits and scored 10 votes, but didn’t play last week their quota would be 6
2 + ( 0 / 0 ) * 4 + ( 10 / 10 ) * 4 = 6
Looks good to me, Chris. Might also be an idea to fast track the opt-in/out for receiving Suggested Edits (if poss). Just so people aren’t using their quota on folks who won’t be accepting edits.
