An Old Chestnut but I’m still campaigning…Come on Chris lets have maybe one surprise a week - Chris’s Choice perhaps.
There are normally well into double figure submissions within the first minute - I can’t usually refresh my page that fast, let alone think or type.
It would be good fun to have some come in unseen and there are many places to get royalt free pictures
How about it?
I think that the top three captions tend to get all of or most of the votes, would it not be a good idea to keep the votes hidden until the voting is over, I think you would see the votes shared out more but you would lose the excitement of having your caption voted on and maybe top of the leader board.
What do you think?

Or even just a random choice from the first page or two of the upcoming photos.
Having an extra photo at a random time would be good for the site and I’m keen. What we need are:
- A source of good, topical photos that don’t have a commercial license. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page has the right kind of licensing, but lacks fun photos. Let’s see if we can find better sites.
- A new mechanism for uploading photos
- Volunteers to find and submit the photos (as I don’t have much free time at the moment and want to focus on improving the technology of the site)
I’ve moved this “impromptu photos” feature up the todo list
This kind of site is what we’re looking for:

I’ve just loaded the top photo from the list as an extra bonus photo from today. I may do a few more this week, which should mean that people are more likely to see a photo they can caption, and because weekly quotas remain the same, we’ll see less captions per photo - less of a flurry at peak times, and hopefully higher quality captions.
Let’s see how it goes.
Nice touch - I do like a curve ball
