A thought occurs Chris. Could be quite complex and unworkable however. I wonder if on pictures that ‘share’ a winner, (say four captions with three votes each), you could represent this on the homepage? Perhaps a small banner of text attached the bottom of the picture which simply says something like; “Four top/winning captions” (or a variation that sounds better). Then beneath could the captions possibly auto-rotate? Or maybe be viewable by way of a simple arrow to the right of the picture which lets users see the other winners? It just seems to be a bit sporadic in how the top caption is chosen and some captioneers might not get the chance to have ‘their name in lights’ as often as some of us regulars which could take the shine off for them. It’s a difficult one, representing a batch of winners in a very small space
The current choice is based on time. If several captions have top score, the most recent one is displayed (as this has accumulated the same number of votes in less time). I agree that multiple first-place captions should definitely share the limelight and have added this to the dev plan
Sweet. I’ve tied on one of the winners so far. I’d like to say that potentially, it’s the earliest one that’s more sensibly the top rated as the captioneer has had less time to think about it. Sure, the later one has had less time to accumulate votes but they’ve had more time to think of something…
Sorry Grant, I am disagreeing with you a lot tonight:s but a later submitting doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve had more time to think of it, it can mean you were just late onto the site.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion! The earlier posted one might actually get lost 3 pages down within an hour, while the later posted one might sit on the first page for longer, meaning the later posted one actually gets seen more often. You can argue between earlier and later postings either way - I just think if two captions win with equal votes, they should both be displayed.
