Who thought the dead birds in the road picture was a suitable source of humour ? Really ?  Can someone please tell me where is the line between what is acceptable and what is not. What next ? Scenes from the abattoir ? Where is the moral compass here ?

This is supposed to be a fun site. I don't want that picture on my screen, so I won't be on here for a while.

Maybe it's only me who feels like this, but sometimes you've got to stand up and be counted, even if you're the only one.

I don’t really see the difference between dead chickens on supermarket shelves and dead chickens accidentally spilled out along the road.  In either case, they have been bred for the table, and killed for the table - sure, people who don’t eat meat would not necessarily like to look at them, but equally people with an allergic reaction or phobia to feathers would not like to look at living storks in a bathroom.  I reckon most photos could upset somebody or other.  And this is (according to Koestler, anyway) a major source of humour: releasing the tension which has been caused by a particular situation.

I totally disagree with you. Those birds have had miserable lives and people think it’s funny ?
I’m glad I don’t think like that.

What about the recent pic of a house on fire? Is that funny ?

It was only this morning that the "forum" button lit up for me when I looked at "discuss", so if I didn't see your post before, maybe nobody else has either.

Everybody has the right to their own point of view, and you and I are fully entitled to disagree with each other.  However, in my view the photo has nothing to do with the lives the chickens had before they were killed - you can't tell whether they were imprisoned in a battery, or happily free-range.  One thing is for sure - if the purpose had not been to enable people to eat them, they would never have been born at all.  (And I don't think the house was on fire - something inside the room was causing the smoke, but there was no hint of flames.)

I’m with Molly on this. Let’s not make assumptions about the chicken photo or the smoke photo. 

This is a comedy site, not a vegetarianism campaigning site.

As Chris said, this is not a vegetarianism campaigning site. That photo which you downvoted could have had cotton wool stuffed in the bags for all you know. Finding original photos is difficult enough on here. The chickens in the road photo where you did well with “Don’t look, it’s not pheasant” didn’t stop you from captioning, as did the snake with the fag in its mouth, where you did a caption ‘Puff Adder’ Why the change of mind all of a sudden?

I was aware of how Charles felt about the chickens on the road picture because of this post on the forum. My down voting the hunter with the chickens had nothing to do with how I felt about it, or the previous chicken photo. I was only thinking how Charles might feel about the appearance of another chicken photo, given that he had so recently been upset by it. No-one need agree with his view on animals, but everyone deserves to have their feelings acknowledged.

You do a great job finding new photos and your effort is greatly appreciated. Hopefully we can all lend you a hand helping to find fun caption-inspiring photos that make as many people smile as possible. I will try to make more of an effort to help finding good photos, so the burden is not so great.

Our brains work differently, and we have had different life experiences. For me the picture with the red bricks is an easy picture to caption. I agree it's good not to take the photos too seriously but when there's a choice between photos which make people feel happier and those that don't, I'd always prefer to choose the former. I recall seeing Pussy Galore comment in the forum how wonderful the community of caption.me is. I believe part of being a community, is to try to consider the needs of its members. Charles made his needs very clear recently in this forum and I was responding to his needs to try to bring him back to our community.

Charles felt the need to have a pop at people for voting for a photo he doesn’t like. 

Funny Bean - I also like to respond to people’s needs, but I tend to focus on the needs of captioneers like Welsh Rarebit, who have been excellent contributors to this site for many years, and who never instigate disputes or troublemaking.

I asked the question .“what was acceptable” in a photo. I still have had no answer.
I find this all quite ridiculous… What is the point of a forum at all if we can’t discuss things ???

Chris , this is important…are you saying that I have " involved myself in disputes or troublemaking?"
Please answer that question yes or no.

I’m not getting drawn into this any more, Charles and Funny Bean. 

Please focus on caption-writing. No more PMs to other captioneers trying to coerce them into forum disputes. No more passing moral judgement on others for how they vote on photos. Behaviour like this is creating tension and distracting from the fun competition at the heart of this site.
