Overall ranking/total votes cast

Chris,

Would it be possible to show a captioneer’s overall ranking and total number of votes cast on the profile page?

Adrian

Hi Adrian, I’ve added this to the todo list

Hi Chris, with the new year inching ever closer I wonder if it would be a good idea to have an ongoing league table covering the whole year. I feel this would encourage captioneers to stick with the site. Maybe you could devise a league system similar to the football league with four divisions, headed by a premier league. Of course everyone will start on zero, but if the leagues were limited to 20 captioneers per division and ordered by votes recieved, in time they would organise themselves. Maybe at the end of the year you could devise an award ceremony. Just an idea, as I feel it would be nice to have a bench mark with which to compare my performance over a longer period.

I have said it to him personally but I think every captioneer should see the way Tony Edwards uses caption.me
Brilliant captions that put him in the top 5 almost weekly and more impressive is his place in the top 5 voters!
Here is an allround captioneer that reads and writes, scores and votes.

It will be hard to make a formula to see who are still in the real top 10 captioneers if you should look at voting statistics. Ofcourse any vote NOT given is a vote less for the competition, and therefore not really fair.

Since the top 10 voters has some regulars, the only thing it says to top captioneers is that the top voters like their sense humour, not necissarily that the quality of their captions is better than someone else’s who does vote.
look at me..I try to vote constant but miss the fun (english is 2nd language) in many captions that I’m sure a top captioneer could understand immediately.

Please do not take offense but being in the top 10 without voting is actually fooling yourself a bit; what happens is that you ignore competition and get likes from the same people every week… Ofcourse does not everyone have the time to read all the captions but if you can write a caption you can also click on your mousebutton.

Like I wrote before somewhere on the forum: I usually take the top 10 and do weird math:
Week Score (30) total amount of votes received
Difference in Votes (given 3) = 30 - 3 = 27 difference.

30 points - 27 none votes = 3 total score

That shakes up the whole scoreboard. It gives a more fair picture since the voters run the risk of voting for the competition..

In the end it’s all for a laugh isn’t it? So just let’s show some appreciation for the effort people make to write a good caption. And as I said before; a vote from a top captioneer is allways a good motivation and sign of respect for a good caption.

Looking forward to 12 o’clock (or 11 as in Britain)

A new week, goodluck to all!

Hi Steve,

The idea of leagues is an interesting one and there’s a lengthy discussion here: http://www.caption.me/bb/read.php?2,286

Definitely something I’m considering, although there are one or two niggles that need to be ironed out first
