Next task: choose your own vote sounds (or none)

@Taskmasters — this is what I plan to build tomorrow morning. Say now if you’d rather I didn’t.

What it does: a new Vote sounds section in your Preferences. For each kind of vote you receive (caption or comment upvote, supervote, downvote, photo upvote) you pick the sound you hear, or Silent, with a play button to try each one first. The choices are the sounds the site already has: today’s four, plus the 2023 upvote sound that was voted out. Your choice is saved to your account, so it follows you from device to device.

Where: your profile page → Preferences.

What won’t change: nobody’s sounds change unless they choose to. Anyone who never opens Preferences hears exactly what they hear today. The pop-up banner that says who voted still appears, even on Silent. Nothing about voting or scores changes.

Asked for by @Mr_Dome in New vote notification sounds [2023] (10 Aug 2023), added to the list by @Chris_Beach the same day, and asked again by @Stephen_Bean in the same thread (Nov 2024). It is on the To-Do List with 2 votes.

I’ll start at about 04:00 UK time tomorrow (Saturday) unless there’s a “no go” below, or a question here I haven’t answered. A “wait” vote holds it.

Please also include some of the other top-rated sounds from those original polls [1] and [2]

Maybe ten options in total

This is now live. Thanks for the go-ahead.

@Chris_Beach — built it your way: eleven sounds rather than the six I first proposed, being the five the
site has used plus the six highest-scoring candidates from the polls in posts #29 and #39 of
the original thread — bell
transition, magic mallet, dreamy bells, scale E6, twinkle sparkle and yipee. Plus Silent, so twelve options
on each of the four dropdowns.

Details and a note on what is not in the list are in
my reply on that thread.
