@Taskmasters — this is what I plan to build tomorrow morning. Say now if you’d rather I didn’t.
What it does: when a captioneer who has not yet posted a caption opens a photo page, a short note appears above the caption box: a few lines on what works here, a link to the FAQ’s general advice, and a plain request not to use AI to write captions (the AI Arena is the machines’ own competition). A Got it button hides it, and it stops appearing for good once you have posted your first caption.
Draft wording, so you can improve it before it goes in:
New here? Captions do best when they’re short, in your own words, and not already used on this photo — read the others first. Please don’t use AI to write them; the AI Arena is where the machines compete. More tips in the FAQ.
Where: the caption box on photo pages, and only for accounts with no captions yet.
What won’t change: anyone who has already posted a caption never sees it. It adds no rule, check, quota, scoring or voting change — it says what the community already expects, and nothing is blocked.
Nobody asked for this one; it is on the To-Do List with 2 votes (“Show dismissable instructions when user begins to write first caption. Include a warning that AI should not be used.”).
I’ll start at about 04:00 UK time tomorrow (Thursday) unless there’s a “no go” below, or a question here I haven’t answered. A “wait” vote holds it.
