I’ve just had eight votes wiped from my score. Anybody know the reason why? Has it happened to anybody else?

I lost 2 votes just over a week ago. I have also given super votes that have not registered. Have sent messages to Chris Beach on each occasion, plus reminder, but get no reply! Not a major problem, but frustrating that it’s not getting sorted!
Hi guys - I’m sorry for not responding. I’ve been really busy lately.
Mark - I can see that the votes you lost were from a user that has been linked to you (via Caption.Me’s automated checks). In some cases, two or more family members use caption.me, and I’ve had requests to remove any votes between them to avoid unfairness.
Zac - I did have a look to see what the problem was, but it’s going to require further investigation I’m afraid.

Cheers Chris but I don’t understand who I’m meant to be linked to. I don’t know any captioneers in the real world.
Mark - the linking happens via a couple of mechanisms. One is watertight, and the other (IP addresses) is less reliable because some mobile networks share IP addresses between lots of unrelated users. I try to exclude mobile networks for this reason, but they’re not always easy to identify. To cut a long story short, the system is occasionally wrong. I don’t think it’s right for me to make individual concessions, but I will look to improve the system to prevent any false positives.

Chris you say in your last post you don’t think its right for you to make individual concessions could you explain why this is the case please.
I’m linked to three captioneers who I don’t personally know and I don’t think its right that all of us should lose points because the system you are using doesn’t work correctly.
I know you put this system in place to stop cheating but maybe it would be better just to name and shame the cheats.
Paul, I will look into the links found between your accounts and if they’re not strongly linked I will remove them.
I take the fairness of voting seriously and I want as much automation as possible to ensure there is no unfair treatment of captioneers.

Hi. I’ve lost a further three votes today, no rhyme or reason. I am not connected to anyone else in any way whatsoever. I am guessing that the other person or persons are losing my votes as well. I understand fairness and equality are issues, but some of us are losing out for no reason. Is there any way this can be looked into?

Boycie - I have removed the automatic links to all (four) other accounts on the basis that IP linking is not a 100% perfect technology.
Chris, following on from comments above I am still losing votes even though I know no-one on this site. I have managed to work out that I appear to be linked to Boycie and thus am losing his votes and am also having my votes removed from what I can only guess are his captions. As Boycie and I seem to be some of the more regular voters we are both probably losing more than most, I am personally losing 2-3 points a day. If you have time can you check how our accounts are linked and make a judgement on whether our accounts are strongly linked thus justifying our losses.

I’ve just logged on to start a new week of captioneering and find that my score is -4? Can someone explain why that might happen? Have I been penalised in some way? Perhaps there is a rule or system I’ve missed. Thanks.
I also have a displayed score of -3. I can’t account for this. Can someone please explain?

I will review the IP address links and if I find that theyÂre not strong links (e.g. if they were dynamically-assigned IPs), IÂll remove the links and reinstate votes.

I think Vivvy En and I can safely say that we don’t know each other, don’t have any idea where the other is, and do not purposefully vote for each other! The fact that we’ve both been docked votes must be a complete coincidence. Anyway, it would be useful to know what you find in your system. Thanks.
I don’t know Jonathan Allsopp but we do tend to glitch together (missing ping). I’m feeling unfairly treated. Hope this can be rectified.
Yes. No pings for 6 months and I am unable to award any lol or clever or creative vote to anyone, sadly - not in 2017 anyway. I truly would. It may be my old chrome engine on a vista platform … but as vivvy says it does seem weird to be docked points without knowing why. Anyway, I’m sure justice will prevail!
