Internet Explorer issues

I made some changes to the site last night and these have caused some issues for those of you using Internet Explorer on Windows PCs. You may find that voting doesn’t work, or the popups don’t work.

I plan to fix this soon, but on a general note I would recommend that you download Google Chrome or Firefox, and use one of those as your browser instead

Download Chrome

Download Firefox

These browsers are faster than Internet Explorer and support modern web standards so you’ll have a better experience online.

If you’re on a Mac, like me, you’ll probably be using Safari as your browser. This is likely to be up-to-date so you don’t need to use Chrome or Firefox if you’re on a Mac.

Hi Chris.

I had the Internet Explorer problem, so I’ve downloaded Firefox.

It seemed to work at first, and I voted for some of the upcoming photos (three I think), but then the voting locked up again. Now I can’t vote for anything (captions or photos), although it seems I can post captions and make forum posts.

Have you set a limit on the number of things we can vote for at any one time?

If not, I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling again.

I’m using Google Chrome Chris and it won’t let me vote just now when I tried. Not sure what to do.

I’m using Chrome and I can vote Ok, just hope the pop ups work!!

Days like this, I wish caption.me was my day-job.

Unfortunately I can’t do any caption.me development on weekdays 8:30 till 7pm as I work in a hedge fund and they’re (naturally) quite restrictive about me accessing my personal web server.

I’ll look into the issues as soon as poss (probably this eve). Rest assured I haven’t added any rules that would prevent voting.

Chris

Would be handy if you could let me know what happens when you’re unable to vote. Do you get an error message, or is it simply that nothing happens when you click the button?

If you’re having the problem on Chrome, please refresh the page, Press ctrl-shift-j to open the error console and let me know if any error messages pop up in it when you vote. Press ctrl-shift-j again to make the console go away.

Thanks,

Chris

No problems so far with Firefox touch-wood

Mine is now working.

That’s good. I did manage to make a small tweak (forced the javascript file to re-cache) which may help everyone who’s suffered the problem in Chrome/Firefox this morning

Internet Explorer users will still see issues and should still upgrade to Chrome or Firefox.

on a side issue I have not been able to load the captions page of say a particular caption for the last few weeks on my blackberry using opera mini. the main site / list of captioneers loaded fine it was just the drill down if you will of a individual picture. the native BB brower does work but it dog slow. was one of the reasons why I installed opera mini. (opera mini did work fine in the past)

anyway, whatever your done on the weekend opera mini is now working fine again for all pages. (tu):)-D

Cheers Joe, good to hear. I have removed old code and rewritten the voting code ready for developing the new “super-vote” feature, which you should all see next week.
