I was informed today that a captioneer was private messaged by someone asking the recipient to take sides in a thread on the forum.
This request was unsolicited, and as such, it’s totally inappropriate.
If I hear that the same individual has sent similar unsolicited messages to other members I will take action - which may include removing them from caption.me altogether.
If anyone receives a private message that they feel is inappropriate please let me know.
I am presuming you mean me. I asked Pussy Galore and Karyn if they could say something nice that might make Charles Gleason feel better about the chicken photo, so that hopefully he might come back to the site. I value his contribution to the site both for his captions and his generosity with voting. I agreed with Pussy that commenting might make things worse and after accepting this, sent another message retracting my request to Karyn. Both gave me lovely replies and were also concerned about Charles. I don’t think the content of my messages or their intent was either offensive or malicious but I respect your desire to censor such messages.
This is inappropriate, Funny Bean.
Your intentions were benign I’m sure, but it is up to other members whether they choose to participate in forum threads.
I’m not happy with unsolicited private messages being used in this way.
All private messages send emails to members, at a cost to their time and attention. They will also feel an obligation to reply.
How Charles feels about a chicken photo is his own business, and I do not want members randomly disturbed about it via private message, even if your intentions were benign.
I hope everything I’ve explained is clear.
I’m happy you acknowledge my intentions were benign. I regretted sending the requests and apologized to Pussy Galore and Karyn. They may not have told you that I had already apologized but I accept that you felt you had to tell me publicly I would be removed from the site if I sent any similar messages. Your explanation is clear.
As mentioned on that forum thread, I agreed with your point of view, Molly, and thought your reply was helpful and constructive.Molly R said:Chris, you say: "How Charles feels about a chicken photo is his own business" - from which I get the feeling that you may think that I should not have responded to his post by putting an alternative point of view.
