I’ve removed tonight’s “what a c**t” caption. Apologies if there was some hilarity I missed in the caption, but I’m tired of ISPs blocking caption.me because of language like this.
Occasional swearing is fine, but nothing gratuitous please.
Wanker, tosser, twat, prick, cock. All used frequently on here and all gratuitous. No problem there then! I suppose one man’s cunt is another man’s wanker. I can’t understand why people get so upset about the word cunt. It’s only a word after all.
That word has been used here before Chris, and in the context of this particular picture it seemed appropriate, and summed up the the idiocy of the photo. I do not like gratuitous bad language, but in some contexts it may be appropriate, particularly in caption writing on what I considered to be an adult site.
Myself and others voted for it because WE obviously found it amusing- to get the 6 votes says it all. The “F” word is also used frequently here, and some may be offended by it, but it gets through every time. I am not happy that you censor a caption that deprives a captioneer
of well earned votes. There’s not much point in me continuing on Caption.me. if there are are going to be double standards. I refer you to Dan Dan’s caption last year which won with 15 votes -(www.caption.me/203088).

Mark, Zac, language like that might work if there’s some context to the caption, but it didn’t in this case. And the site takes a hit every time words like that are on the front page. Not everyone is as comfortable with that language as you are.
I find this particular word offensive, and it is a word I do not use. I admit to using other swear words on and off site. I cannot explain as to why this is so offensive to me, but it always has been.
We are all different, but I think we should respect the fact that this is Chris’s baby and simply avoid the use of this word. There are plenty of other profanities to choose from.

I thought I was missing something in the c…t caption, now I know I didn’t.
profanity (like the immortal re-use captions like snow patrol, wc fields or feline lucky) always scores, but often at the cost from more crafted (and creative way of putting) decent captions.
From a Ladies point of View…I really don’t like to see the C U NEXT TUESDAY word either

My wife too finds the ‘C’ word abhorrent.
The point I was trying to make is that the caption had been voted on and some of us found it amusing. I thought the caption from last year that I referred to in my comment above (by Dan Dan) was in very bad taste, but in the context of Caption.me it was deemed acceptable and did not receive any adverse comment or criticism from Chris Beach.
If that photo was voted up to be chosen as a suitable subject for us to caption it suggests to me that some captioneers obviously are happy to see such images which will inevitably invite very risqué and lewd captions. In Dan Dan’s caption the dreaded word featured two asterisks, and won. The caption posted on Thursday was spelt in full, but does that necessarily imply it is less acceptable?
I fully appreciate Chris Beach’s comment that use of this word has caused issues on this site and respect his decision to censor.
What did concern me was that there was no warning given by Chris (to the author of the caption) that he intended to delete it, and no opportunity was allowed for any amendment/modification or adjustment to the wording which may of perhaps made it more acceptable to his way of thinking.
I am pretty sure that if any one of us had written a caption receiving six votes and to then see it invalidated without any sort of democratic consultation or consideration would feel hard done by.

I had a parents meeting at schol this week for my youngest son where his teacher handed me some of his work saying he seems to spell the same word wrong a lot.As I looked at the sheet cicled a dozen times was his attempt to spell COULDN’T with CUNT …" To be fair to him twice it wasn’t a spelling mistake.
Monday- Wrote a caption calling a bloke a prick. Got 5 votes.
Tuesday- Entered a caption with homophobic tendacies. Got 8 votes.
Wednesday- Wrote a caption ridiculing paedophillia. Got 10 votes.
Thursday- Wrote the word Cunt. Outrage!
I believe in the future the C word will be as common as the f word is now; bearing in mind the f word would not have been acceptable on TV etc. 30 years ago; however, although the C word has become more common publicly in the last few years, it still currently takes people aback.
I use the C word when alone with a few male friends when we are judging someone harshly. It is a harsh aggressive word compared to other swear words and hard to be funny with (IMO).
I personally believe that non violent anti-semetism, racism, fatism ageism etc. when not used in the presence of the young or vulnerable is preferable to politically correct covering up. Better to see how stupid and misguided humans usually are than deny it. But that is an ideal not fully supported by the law.
There are occasionally a few captions that cross the line for me and turn my stomach. That’s life.
Personally, today, I don’t see the C word like other swear words and I was not unhappy to see it removed, even if it breaks an ideal. Sometimes there isn’t a right or wrong solution, only your best guess, the lesser of all evils.
If ISPs are blocking caption.me because of language like this then it’s a no-brainer - we don’t use it. I don’t mean to pussy-foot around the subject but it’s probably just the C word, so don’t spell it in full.
