The voting seems to have ended so time to announce the winner.
I say winner because the unlikely happened and one member, Stone face, garnered the most votes for their caption and also provided the best idea for me to work with.
The winning caption, which receives a £15 prize, was this:
" God damn Smithers, hurry it up. I must get to Lady Blithesworth soon.
And if I do get to her in this old, worn out, what's you call it, I'm going to.."
"Banger, sir."
"Steady on Smithers, it's our first date."
My choice was this:
"Oh I say, I do like being driven around by Watkins.
He's such a spliffing driver."
which receives a £10 prize, so if the deserving winner would like to pass me their PayPal email I'll send your £25 ASAP.
This has been a fruitful experience, and I've also had a bit of fun and got a few votes for my captions, which was nice. Thanks again to Chris for allowing me on here, and to all who participated. But this is not the end...
As I said earlier in the thread, I may need more help. Stone face's coining of the word "spliffing" is a perfect combo of old and modern and could even work as a one word caption with an exclamation mark perhaps. But I think we can do better. Given that we already have a skeleton idea - who can put some meat on it for me? If anyone would care to come up with something superb I will happily send a tenner to the first person whose caption I can use more or less as is, but obviously including the word "spliffing" or thereabouts.
Or, as a poster, please remember, would it work with just that word underneath? I may alter the image to be more illustrative of a spliff, so would this then be any good, does anyone think? I don't know - it seems kind of dramatic and amusing enough but maybe not quite that appealing for people to really want to buy. How about making it look like a real old advert - something like "Chillington's Cannabis Cigarettes - Spliffing!"?, but replacing the first three words with something good? Any suggestions welcome please. I could do a nice colour font or two to liven it up. But I think something like "Blankety Blank - Spliffing!" would work well - with the Blankety Blank bit being short and sweet.
I'm determined to get this done the in best way I can and it's getting closer, I feel. One more push and I think it will be cracked.
