Not sure I hit the right reply button, but I’m confused (in more ways than one). What are the criteria and time lines for “the one that got away”? And what do you mean by that anyway? I accidentally voted when I tried to enlarge the picture of one, but don’t necessarily want to redo the vote until I know what it all means.

It’s a selection of captions from 2021 that came close to winning the monthly prize but missed out, Willie. Chris and C CaMel have kindly given us a second chance.

Thanks Mr. Beach. It’s about the same as the other ones so I’ll leave it. I’m still wondering how or why these particular ones were chosen. You always explain the process and reasoning so well on other changes. This one is still a mystery.

They’re all brilliant captions and all worthy of a cash prize. My choice of the missing fence was an easy one for me because it’s one of my all time favourites. And Chris, I had no idea of the technical attributes required to run Caption me. How the hell did you make the text go red?

Antarctic expedition diary. Day 1. Me and my fellow explorers were getting tired. The freezing conditions and sharp winds were starting to affect our strength and patience. After a 50 mile hike through the difficult terrain, we stopped to eat some energy gels from our survival packs. What happened next we could have never predicted. Derbyshire Police turned up and fined us £200 for having a f*cking picnic.
