This could be funny

Good idea - added to the todo list

Agreed  Even if it’s just a number of people online and possibly not exactly who it’d be awesome

Great idea Bagpuss

Sorry I’ve been so quiet of late on the site.

Creative juices aren’t flowing too good and my enthusiasm is not so much waining but maybe more a confidence shunt has made me reluctant to post caption.

That and by the time I get there some of my ideas are gone and the ones I have then either have similar captions or I just know are not going to get any likes and if they “could” they’d only be ignorred or missed. Just lost all confidence.

I’m trying (and some say that’s my problem :P) but of course it means I’m less inclined to vote as I’m seeing 99+ to read through and no longer reading through so being selective.

I need to start uploading my own pics again I think. The only time I’ve ever “won” a picture as such was when I had my own picture and knew exactly what I wanted.

Is everything drying up this xmas?

Come 1pm I may have 17 captions where my identity is hidden and no vote in any. Will be over a week since I had one :open_mouth:

Season of good will and cheer. Somebody give me a vote please. I’ve given nearly everyone my presents with over 150 votes cast since I last got one myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course you wont know which ones are mine so I ahve to hope still. I laugh at my own and would vote for at least 10 of them if I read them. Just concerns me that either my se3nse of humour is completely wrong or I’m too easily pleased.

Suggest we rename this thread “James’s caption dilemmas” ? :S

Yeah. I just to avoid myself feeling annoyed. Have to release sometimes. I’m complex.

That and it works. Since then I seem to have got some new likes so thanks to whoever posted that skylight picture. It’s a great one.

Nice to be back again

Had a few months off with a lot of uni work and just a general comedic block but back now and things seem more “advanced”.

So many people, votes and photos. It’s certainly looking healthy Chris  Grats.

How is Rob F on 52 votes with only 1 caption since Sunday?

I knwo some people vote back in time but to that extent?

Pretty sure there’s no cheating but I am curious as to howyou get to 52!!!

I would imagine he has 2/3 of the top captons for the saturday night which didnt get voted on till past midnight still very impressive as a caption average this week

Hi James

It will be because of his captions towards the end of last week. He’s probably done several good ones on Friday and Saturday and maybe a lot people out on Saturday night didn’t vote until Sunday. If he doesn’t do any more captions this week he’ll get a quota of about 400 next week.

Fraser.

I only just found this topic, as it doesn’t seem the best headline to publish it under.

Yes, I sent in what were clearly good captions on Saturday, so these got voted on from Sunday onwards.

As the quota system seems to work against me in so many ways (I only vote if I like a caption, and I’ve been around so long that my average ratio is probably not so good), it’s nice to find one way in which I get improve this.

Personally, I believe people should only vote on the current caption or two.

I tried to put it in a new topic and it crashed my computer…

So I just rebooted and put it where I knew it’d post. This is sort of my own thread I claimed last year when I was relatively new :stuck_out_tongue:

I do agree with you Rob. I think the window for voting should be massively reduced. That way people are more likely to vote as they post as it may be their main chance.

3 days maximum rather than a week.

I am just literally going over this past weeks pictures whilst I’ve got the chance and time to go through the captions. It’s not the first time I’m going through pages and pages of captions days after they’ve been submitted because sometimes I’m not available to vote on or around that day.

There are many folk on this site that have taken the time and effort to caption so whilst I’ve got the free time, I’m taking the time and effort to read through them…plus I like to go in search of what makes me smile and giggle

I’m noticing a lot of great captions are getting lost and forgotten about because they’ve gotten pushed to the bottom of the pile, so I personally would say if you happen to have the spare time please do what I do and check the pages for lost great captions! My method is…start from the first page and read through all those that have already been voted incase someone’s caption that hasn’t been voted is a duplicate of the original that has already been voted. Then work your way backwards and start from the last page for those that go in their captions first. I am making some corkers of discoveries! x

My caption score keeps going up too despite very poor ratings this week
I keep looking back through the weeks captuons to see which caption has picked up a vote and finding nothing obvious.

A long time ago I had the same feeling - no new votes on my captions, but my score going up.

Then it stopped.

Believe you me, it’s better the first way.

I am baffled though. I can only figure that someone is voting on ‘dead’ captions to boost caption quota.
Is this possible?

Just tried it on a “closing caption” and yes you can vote for captions that still have captioneers name hidden.
So not only can someone increase their caption quota but effectively they can sabotage another captioneers ranking.
Is it possible to close all voting on captions once the reveal starts?
(BTW I reversed the vote as soon as I placed it.)

Each individual caption can be voted on for a week from the time it was added regardless of the date/time the photo became available for captions to be added.

Lisa, I can assure you my hours spent reading through captions is with honourable intention and personal pleasure, not to boost my voting stats and I’m finding it a shame I want to give others well deserved praise with a marked acknowledgment without folk wondering what the hidden agenda is.

There’s nothing worse than writing what you feel is a fitting caption to the picture and it not being acknowledged because people don’t want to scroll, read or click the ‘more captions’ link or don’t want to be the first to vote in fear their captions get pushed to the bottom of the page and ultimately lost on the next page.

If it makes me laugh or I think it’s clever I don’t hesitate to vote (…hell I even spend time googling the things I don’t unsderstand to get an understanding of it!) and the ones I wish I could vote on again because they are that good or funny I give praise to in the comments box in hopes it will go recognised and receive much deserved further votes. An example of a caption I spotted last week was on the 3 bicycles on the wall photo, someone wrote the caption ‘A Picture Finish’ - much to my suprise it was on the second page of captions and it didn’t get a single vote???

You will find I never caption at the weekends because as much as I love this site, I’m not soleley committing myself to it 7 days a week but I do check through the pictures in my free time when I return to work. I instantly see the top caption and think it’s brilliant - it’s got my vote, but I simply cannot vote the top caption and not read through the rest - I believe that’s unfair conduct plus it’s like OCD but in a good way!

Anyway, I don’t want to give off the wrong impression so I’m not going to go through the pics that I wasn’t around to vote or even caption on the day but I think people should be spending their time expressing disappointment in those that don’t/rarely vote rather than the ones that do.

If I’ve got the wrong end of the stick then I apologise, it just felt like an indirect accusation.
