I see the new button on the thumbnail photos, but not when I click to open one to examine it properly. ---

As Kate mentions above, and as was discussed in the other thread, there were some advantages with the Random view order, especially for less frequent photo voters. If it’s not difficult, could we perhaps have a selectable viewing order - Latest / Random. No dramas (personally, I’ll mostly be using Latest and neutral votes anyway), but some may prefer the instant variety the old Random order offered. ---

I remember now why we opted for ‘random’ over ‘latest’ when we made the change a few years back. It was to give the older photos a chance to rise to the top. Since we’ve switched to ‘latest’ many of the selected photos have been relatively new. This isn’t a bad thing, as such, but it does mean that older pics may linger for a long time, possibly eternity 😉 ---

I completely agree - it feels like there’s much less variety in the photos coming up….. I liked it when they were much more random and diverse. Currently, only admin, I think, can vote for any of the older photos. ---

I think anyone can still vote for older photos, Kate. The issue is that under the ‘latest’ view you have to scroll down a long way to find them. I can’t imagine many people will bother. ---

Hi @James_Lennox and @KT_A - I have restored the random order to the pending photos page. One caveat: we cannot show photos older than 180 days for technical reasons (photo voting records are only kept for 180 days, so if we allowed photos to be listed for more than 180 days, it would be possible for someone to vote twice or more on the same photo) ---

Cheers, mate. For the record, I personally preferred the ‘latest’ view, but I think the random order gives older photos a much greater chance of selection, and potentially mixes things up more too, as Kate mentioned. ---

@James_Lennox this one is now live. The pending photos page now has a **random / latest** selector in its heading (where it used to just say “Pending Photos”). **Random** is the same daily shuffle as before and stays the default, since it gives older photos a look-in; **latest** lists the newest submissions first. Your choice is remembered from visit to visit, and applies to the “show mine” view too. Either way the list still only reaches back 180 days, for the reason Chris gave above.
